Mississippi College Singers

 Keynote: Dr. Stephen A. Hayner 

The Mississippi College Singers is a mixed-voice, auditioned ensemble that is the premier choral group of the department of music. Presenting a diverse repertoire of accompanied and unaccompanied literature, this choir has performed throughout the United States and abroad, Past performances include feature concerts at the annual meeting of the Mississippi Convention of American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference in 2002, 2007, and 2010, Mississippi Day at the Washington National Cathedral in 2003, the 2004 ACDA Southern Division Convention in Nashville, and the 2008 ACDA Southern Division Convention in Louisville’s Kentucky Center for the Arts and the prestigious invitation to perform on the program of the ACDA National Convention in Los Angeles in 2005. In January 2010, Singers returned to the Carnegie Hall stage for the third time since 2006 for a performance of Rene’ Clausen’s Memorial under the baton of Dr. Meaders.

 

Dr. Steve A. Hayner has served Columbia Theological Seminary as the Peachtree Professor of Evangelism and Church Growth since 2003. Steve has been an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA) for more than 36 years. Steve holds a degree in English literature from Whitman college, a M.T.S. degree in Semitic languages and literature from Harvard University and a Th.M. degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Steve completed his Ph.D. in Old Testament from University of St. Andrews, in Scotland. He has served as vice president for student life at Seattle Pacific University, president of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Steve married Sharol Rhodes in 1973. They have three children and two grandchildren. Steve and Sharol came to Columbia together—Steve to teach and Sharol to complete her M.Div. degree in preparation for ordination. Sharol now serves as associate pastor for discipleship at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Steve serves on a number of national and international boards, including World Vision, International Justice Mission, Christian International Scholarship Foundation, and Presbyterian Global Fellowship.
